Strengthen enforcement to curb misuse of PMD
We thank Ms Li Shujuan for her letter on the misuse of personal mobility devices (PMDs) (18 Feb). PMDs are regulated to ensure the safety of all path users. These motorised devices are allowed only on cycling paths and must not exceed an unladen weight of 20kg, width of 70cm, and maximum device speed of 25km/h. For public transport, LTA has mandated size limits for active mobility devices. Foldable bicycles and PMDs must be folded before boarding, and must not exceed 120cm x 70cm x 40cm when folded. Three-Year Lock-In Period for Business-Owned Chauffeured Private Hire Cars to Enhance Stability of the Point-to-Point Transport Supply
To achieve a more stable supply of vehicles that can be used to provide ride-hail services, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will introduce a mandatory three-year lock-in period for all newly registered or converted chauffeured Private Hire Cars (cPHCs) owned by businesses, and all cPHCs transferred from individuals to businesses. Request for Proposals for the Pilot Deployment of Autonomous Buses for Public Bus Services
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched a Request for Proposal (RFP) today to seek industry’s proposals to pilot autonomous public bus services. Through this pilot, LTA aims to assess the technical feasibility of autonomous vehicle (AV) technology for public bus services, and gain insights into the operational aspects of running autonomous buses at both service and fleet levels. Hume Station to Open on 28 February 2025
The new Hume MRT station on the Downtown Line (DTL) will open for passenger service at 3pm on 28 February 2025. Hume station is located along Upper Bukit Timah Road, between Hillview and Beauty World stations. It will serve existing residential developments along Hume Avenue and provide Singaporeans with even more convenient access to the Rail Corridor (Central) and Former Ford Factory. Retailer to be Charged for Selling Non-Compliant Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB)
A retailer will be charged in relation to fire incidents involving non-compliant active mobility devices (AMDs). Sales & Marketing Manager of Drive Bikes Singapore, Mr Prince Bryan Tan, will be charged in court on 23 January 2025 for selling a non-compliant Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) and causing a PAB to be modified, rendering it non-compliant for use under the Active Mobility Act 2017 and Road Traffic Act 1961, respectively. National Arts Council and Land Transport Authority Partner to Unveil ‘A Living Museum For Bukit Gombak’ at The Under Viaduct Space, Celebrating SG60 With Art at Unconventional Spaces During Singapore Art Week 2025
Singapore, 17 January 2025 – As part of Singapore Art Week (SAW) 2025, the National Arts Council (NAC) and Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced the launch of art under viaduct spaces, a new project born from a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in January 2024. This inaugural project by NAC and LTA, supported by SMRT and the People’s Association (PA), reimagines public transport spaces as canvases for the arts, invites the public to encounter art in familiar yet unconventional spaces, and transforms daily commutes into enriching cultural experiences.
