When Donald Trump’s presidency began in early 2017, Bloomberg Opinion asked some of its columnists to offer metrics by which to judge his performance over the next four years. These yardsticks included everything from the size of the budget deficit to the number of babies named “Donald.” As Trump prepares to accept the Republican Party’s nomination for a second term, we went back to see how he has done on a few of those yardsticks.
There are fewer people working in manufacturing in the U.S. now than when Donald Trump took office, and this will almost certainly still be true as of Election Day. So in that sense he has failed in his promises to bring a major manufacturing revival.
