ECB’s Mersch Says Bank Dividend Ban Must Remain Temporary

A top European Central Bank official said the regulator’s de-facto ban on bank dividend payments must remain “exceptional and temporary.”

The ECB will decide in December whether banks have sufficient clarity in predicting their capital levels to be allowed to resume shareholder payouts, said Yves Mersch, the deputy head of the central bank’s supervisory arm.
