Kentucky won’t pursue murder charges against the police officers in the death of Breonna Taylor, instead bringing lesser counts against one of the three men involved.

Former Louisville, Kentucky, police officer Brett Hankison was indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on three counts of first-degree “wanton endangerment” for firing his weapon into unidentified apartments but not specifically for shooting the 26-year-old Black woman. He faces as many as five years in prison for each count. Jonathan Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, the two other officers involved in Taylor’s death, were not charged.
