Covid Shot to ‘Win the War’ Rolls Out as U.S. Deaths Top 300,000

In New York, North Carolina, North Dakota and across the U.S., the first Covid-19 shots were administered by hospitals Monday, the initial step in a historic drive to vaccinate millions of people this week.

In Queens, New York, critical-care nurse Sandra Lindsay received the first shot in the state at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. In Charlotte, North Carolina, it was Katie Passaretti, the medical director of infection prevention at Atrium Health. And in Fargo, North Dakota, Melanie Allen, a clinical-care leader at Sanford Broadway Medical Center, got her shot.
