The summer of New York is about to get a whole lot hotter.
Mayor de Blasio Monday warned NYC to keep cool as a heat advisory went into effect as the city continues to push ahead with the recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The heat is coming on strong,” de Blasio said at a morning press conference.
Hizzoner pleaded with New Yorkers to take it easy as the mercury is expected to soar into the low 90s each day through at least Wednesday, with muggy conditions causing the heat index to spike in excess of 100 degrees.
The mayor asked people to stay hydrated and watch out for older neighbors and children. Free cooling centers are open across the city for the duration of the heatwave.
“Take this seriously,” the mayor said. “Let’s be careful out there.”
Just how bad is it going to get? So hot that de Blasio is threatening to bring back the Hawaiian shirt that he wore to a Brooklyn public pool over the weekend.
De Blasio asserted that the pink-and-blue shirt was “very tasteful” and urged Emergency Management Commissioner John Scrivani to “up his game next time.”
