It’s not getting any easier for renters. The Zumper National Rent Index hit another record—with the median monthly price for a newly listed one-bedroom apartment climbing 11% to $1,450 from a year ago.

New York City topped the list as the most-expensive market at $3,780 a month, the rental company said in its July report. That’s up a shocking 41% over last year and 5% from just the prior month as relocations surpass the pre-pandemic pace. San Francisco is rebounding, with rents returning to pre-Covid levels and a median one-bedroom there now priced at $3,100 a month, up 14% and the highest in two years.
