It’s far too early for families to celebrate, but at least the issue of childcare has gained political salience in Britain. It’s about time.

The UK is one of the most expensive countries in the world to raise a child, with most families receiving no government help for children under the age of three. For many parents, provisions are unaffordable, inflexible and hard to access.
